dinner postings again.

so i got back from work and i jumped into a swim at the pool. i went back and cooked some instant pasta and sausage and hotdogs.

san remo instant mac & cheese.

i took 1 cup water 3/4 cup milk and some butter into the pan to boil. while that simmered, i took out my hotdog/sausage from the chiller

tossed in the mac and cheese mixture, added some chili flakes and was stirring for around 10 minutes.

and then when i let that settle I took the hotdogs and the sausage and heated them in the microwave. the only thing i forgot was to put slices on them and the sausage exploded. hee hee.

gaining independence : 1 cup of rice and 1.5 cups of water at a time.

after 3 months of the whirlwind tour from the highest point of my life, to the lowest, to the wtf-insane, i managed to settle down and form an almost functional routine which doesn’t require me to travel long distances to past the time. i managed to have laundry night fridays, semi-weeknight dota sessions Monday to Friday, movie night saturdays, church sundays, and stay at home dinner weeknights monday to friday if possible. so i went ahead already and used the effin stove at long last after looking at it confunded and didn’t bother asking sera whatever makes it ignite. i cooked  san remo instant pasta and its a start. now, i tackle the rice cooker. i haven’t used one in my whole life. the last time i cooked rice was when i was in this leadership course in a gasul cooker when i use dangkal as a measurement system and a lot of trial and error. here’s what i tried to do.

1. Went online to search for water to rice ratio. -apparently there are a lot of ways to cook rice, lots of flavours invovled. and alot of guesstimation. i tossed in 1 cup of rice and 1.5 cup water, but felt dubious so when in doubt…

2. consult an expert – i asked 0tep how did he cook rice. he said basically the same thing, all depends on the quantity of the rice, how you want it (sticky/aldente) and such. he said 1 cup of rice will do with 1.25 cup water, being unsure of my 1 : 1.5 ratio, i tossed another 0.25 cup rice and 0.25 cup water making it 1.25 / 1.75.

3. Add flavouring – now that the cooking process is over.  i added some bit of cooking flair, or the only thing i can do w/ rice,  a dash of olive oil, salt, white pepper and italian seasoning.

4. cooking egg – while waiting for doomsday or for bad rice, i am more worried about cooking egg. splattering oil was one of the many reasons i gave up learning to fry or having to do anything that splats hot stuff on me. (had a horrible second degree burn when i was 11, couldn’t bear the heat)

after a grueling wait, the rice was cooked and i took a peek. it was beautiful and fluffy. the oil probably made it less sticky, the use of salt, herbs, and seasoning were not overkill that it smelled like pizza rice.

so, i heated spam, cooked the egg uneventfully using low heat then traversing to high heat, and topped the rice onto the plate.

so, i survived, the house survived, my tummy survived and the egg survived. i was able to eat happily while watching Desperate Housewives.

saturday, the little boy and i decided to go to greenhills to get the R4 card for amida. we met at v.mapa. hitched on a bus, and got down near tempura/razons of guagua to virramall.

my things have changed. i always remembered virramall is this old, dready, and in-shambles mall, now it can rival greenbelt. the crowd is still pretty much the same, i can’t really play at ease while my bag is just in between me and the machine while the crowd watched. and i feel wary. but nevertheless it has a lot of things that i want…. like the r4 for example at the cheap price :)
First stop, the infamous celtex for my ds lite needs, damn being there was like a kid in a candy store. it was nice to drool at technology. even if they’re too expensive to buy. you just keep wanting themhere’s me asking what other accessories to they have… i look pretty thin here. which is a downright lie since i’m been getting fatter…

i got the r4 for 2k, and that left us the rest of the morning for lunch and the rest of the afternoon to do whatever we want…
Lunch was at a new restaurant…Tender Bob’s which was great, I was craving for steak…
first off, mushroom soup. this soup rival’s kulinarya’s exotic mushroom, a rich hearty soup of blended mushrooms, tasty.
next was chicken fingers, we both commented on american food being a bit bland and everything was on the dipping sauce…

this is the little boy’s lunch. i have sampled it, the presentation is good, but the burger was kind of bland for my taste. so far, nobody tops burgoo’s burger steak :D their serving of rice is a lot. which can get you really full afterwards.

after that we went to the new virramall for a while, looked at the gadgets fawned over the ragnarok model set, looked at laptops, went to the bookstore… wanted to hitch the 2pm shuttle to tiendesitas but wasn’t lucky enough to catch the trip, so we walked around some more before catching the 3pm shuttle. :)

i love dogs, don’t get me wrong, but there is something about cats that tug me :P it could be their sleek, powerful, and almost bitchy nature, but their ability to be so sweet, alluring and gentle won me.

this was a cross breed of a champion ragdoll/ragmuffin. It’s called a ragdoll because they tend to go limp when you hold it like this little feller. this guy has blue eyes and markings on its feet,ears and the nose. 3 months old and is probably the most adorable and sweetest cat ive known, when i walked in the store and raised its paws high up from inside the cage and in my leg as if saying hey, come play with me.
i was looking at him and he glanced back in those adorable eyes. and i couldn’t say no, i wanted to rob a bank right then and there just to take it home, cuddle it and just take care of it…but i was the only cat lover in the family, and i don’t like it getting harrassed the same way as i am currently in this house. it was 10k, cage and everything. a purebred too….

but when i go back to the thought of it being unloved here…i think i made the right decision…don’t want him going through the same shitholes as i am right now…

it was just 5 minutes, but i love him all the same…

after that we had a water break and went back to greenhills to have a snack (tacoes for me, siomai for him) and headed home…

forgotten chinese christmas

here we go again with the forgotten posts… saturday was spent getting fat (again) at circles, makati shangrila. i could never get enough of their buffet. and yes, i cannot eat everything in a go, but i have already have a tradition to go through the following order : soup first, together with japanese sushi, chinese dimsum next, and the main course with i usually go for the prime rib and prawns. then a sampling of dessert. somtimes i go get a pizza or a pasta but it gets you so full easily. plus, you have to stick to the expensive food (like the beef and the prawns and the other stuff that i don’t really eat).

anyway, it was fun. it was nice to have an excuse to make yourself look good, since i don’t like fussing up at all. usually i look pretty drab. So, i like moments where i can look good and get away with it without anybody suspiciously asking if i have a date or anything. :P
